Treatment and Coaching Model
Our Practice operates very much on both Treatment and Coaching models. If you are in pain often Treatment methods are needed to begin your process in order to relieve the initial problems. What we have found, however, is that Treatment in isolation often leaves opportunity for the problems to return and so we have integrated a Coaching model into the Practice that allows you to learn what you can do to make the body healthier, once you begin to recover. This may include learning about your body’s posture, how to stretch your tight muscles, how to perform an exercise programme built for your body’s own specific needs, how to better cope with the stresses in your life or how to eat efficiently for your body’s own metabolic needs.
Treatment Model
The Treatment model includes Physiotherapy, Osteopathy, Naturopathic Medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine. These modalities provide a healing stimulus to the body, and the Practitioner physically provides the stimulus or treatment to the patient.
Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is a therapeutic health profession concerned with enhancing mobility and quality of life by using clinical reasoning to deliver the most suitable treatment for an injury or condition.
Physiotherapy works ideally with corrective exercise therapy where a wide range of drug-free techniques are used to relieve pain, restore function and movement whilst preventing further problems.
The Bowskill Clinic has three different physiotherapy modalities: GUNN IMS Physiotherapy, Visceral Physiotherapy, and Exercise and Manual Physiotherapy
Osteopathy
Osteopathy is a primary care profession focusing on the diagnosis, treatment, prevention and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal disorders, and the effects of these conditions on patients' general health. It includes massage of the soft tissue and mobilisation and manipulation of joints. Osteopathy also works very well with corrective exercise as it helps to remove pain and discomfort, which enables the body to respond to exercise more efficiently leading to a faster rate of recovery and rehabilitation.
Naturopathic Medicine
Naturopathic medicine focuses on individual health care. It involves addressing the whole person through a series cutting edge, science based diagnostic testing and therapy, which goes above and beyond conventional laboratory tests and treatment. Treatments then utilise a drugless approach that is safe and effective while helping to get to the root cause of the ailment and may involve acupuncture, botanical medicine, dietary and lifestyle changes.
Although Naturopathy can address acute conditions, is of particular benefit to individuals with chronic ailments such as chronic fatigue, irritable bowel syndrome, autoimmune disorders, and high cholesterol.
Traditional Chinese Medicine
Chinese Herbal Medicine is a complete medical system that is capable of treating a very wide range of conditions and is based on the energy balancing concepts of Yin and Yang. It aims to understand and treat the many ways in which the fundamental balance and harmony between the two may be undermined and the ways in which a person's Qi or vitality may be depleted or blocked.
Because of its systematic approach and clinical effectiveness, it has for centuries had a very great influence on the theory and practice of medicine in the East, and more recently has grown rapidly in popularity in the West
Clinical strategies are based upon diagnosis of patterns of signs and symptoms that reflect an imbalance. Treatments include herbal therapy, acupuncture, dietary therapy, and exercises in breathing and movement (tai chi and qi gong).
Coaching Model
The Coaching model helps you to guide yourself towards better health and wellbeing under the supervision of an expert coach. Our Coaches are committed to be there to support you through every part of the process, which you will be taught to execute yourself. This approach provides a learning environment where you are able to take charge of your own health and wellbeing whilst still under the guidance of a coach to help you follow through with all your actions.
Exercise Coaching
Our Exercise Coaches are able to design bespoke training programmes which they then teach you how to complete, either on your own with regular re-evaluation or under more frequent weekly supervision in the form of training sessions. Your programme will be taught to you in two stages, stretching first and then strengthening second. This learning process is complimented with a detailed booklet of notes and photographs, and also when required a DVD. We have consistently found that these forms of media are most helpful in assisting people to learn their programme correctly. This quickens the process of recovery and greatly increases your ability to perform the exercises correctly.
Nutrition and Lifestyle Coaching
Our Nutrition and Lifestyle Coaches are able to create custom made strategies to help you to achieve your health and wellbeing needs. This may include advice on diet, stress management, eating patterns, ergonomics or healthy exercising choices. The process utilises an in-depth questionnaire that can subjectively monitor 28 organ and glandular systems that if not working efficiently can hinder your progress from a health and performance perspective.
Your Sleep patterns, physiological load parameters and relaxation strategies all have a huge influence on how the body adapts and recovers from exercise and stress. With bespoke advice on each of these factors and tips to implement these into your life, you will notice continued and steady improvement in your health and wellbeing.
Mind Coaching
Our performance coach is an expert in getting to the bottom of changing behaviours to help you overcome barriers to progress. Whether it is simply creative goal setting and strategy, or more in depth counseling, this form of coaching can be an important catalyst to kick start your health initiative.
