Yoga Tai Chi and Qi Gong
Tai Chi
Tai Chi is a Chinese system of slow meditative physical exercise designed for relaxation, balance and health. It is a system that is believed to facilitate the flow of Qi (life force) in the body, promoting good health and vitality. Tai Chi utilizes movements that are Yin Yang opposites - softness and strength, forward and backwards, action and calm
Yoga
Yoga means "to unify" and is the holistic approach to all aspects of life (physical, mental and spiritual). Yoga views the person as a whole, a unique combination of body, mind and soul and it's techniques whether it be through asanas, pranayama, meditation, philosophy or kirtan brings about harmony of mind, body and spirit. Practiced for emotional and physical health and wellness, Hatha Yoga focuses on both the purification of the mind and the body aiming to pave a path to vitality, wholeness and encouraging a balanced development of human potential.
Yoga is an ancient discipline, which has been practiced for thousands of years. Hatha Yoga is rich with hints of Hinduism, perhaps the oldest religion in the world. Hinduism is a religion based on acceptance. Its aim is to provide guidance on how an individual can grow to become morally, spiritually and physically whole.
Hatha yoga is based on holistic principles, moral disciplines and physical exercise. It focuses greatly on poses (asanas), breathing (pranayama) and meditation.
Hatha Yoga having been around for more than 5000 years is rooted in principles that will never change. However as times have changed some of these ancient principles have been evolved and adapted to accommodate the western world and 21st century civilization. Overall the roots of yoga teach people to obtain what everyone seeks - physical and emotional health, a clear mental state of mind, a life free of anxiety and stress but driven by positivity, balance and joy.
Qi Gong
From qi (energy) and gong (the achievement that comes from practice), a group of Chinese self-healing exercises. They combine simple movement, breathing, and mental imagery to relax and strengthen the body and the mind.
There are three main reasons why people do qigong:
- To gain strength, improve health or reverse a disease
- To gain skill working with qi, so as to become a healer
- To become more connected with the "Tao, God, True Source, Great Spirit", for a more meaningful connection with nature and the universe
